I watched a move recently called 10-Question for the Dalai Lama . In this movie there was a scene where they showed His Holiness in his private living quarters, where he has a small space, a table, with miniature tools, for taking apart and reassembling watches. It is one of his hobbies. It seems he is quite interested in how things work, and fond of taking things such as watches and even cars apart and putting them back together again.
I reflected on an interview I once read, where he was questioned about material things, and he stated how much he liked his watch.

What does this all mean? Well honestly I do not know for sure.........However, as spiritual-beings we seem curious, and have an innate ability to be creative. We are by nature, not only spiritual, but creative-beings as well.

So, it gave me a warm feeling in my heart when I saw this, and fostered some insight as to how truly satisfying it is to delve into our curiosities, and be creative when we want to be. The beauty of making a nice meal, or creating something like artwork, or dancing, or playing music; all of these and infinitely-more, are at our disposal to find peace and joy within our hearts, and to discover what we ourselves are made of in the process.

I started a center for creativity some years back, the
29 palms Creative Center and Gallery . My wonderful  life-long friend Gretchen still runs this center. It was named the Creative Center, in honor of the fact that we all have a creative side, and if we allow ourselves, it can open insights to our spiritual path that are significant and worthy of discovering.

I encourage all of you to be excited about new things. And if you feel you have not a creative-bone in your body, give me a call, and let's see what we can discover for you that will open these doors to your heart and mind.

Above is an image of me working with a fellow student as "strikers" aiding our Mentor
Tai Goo in creating a piece of pattern-welded steel, otherwise refered to as Damascus Steel. You can see the results of a similar piece of steel here  on a finished piece, by Brazilian Bladesmith Luciano Dorneles.
